The owner of the property is WONDERFUL! She was so helpful in arranging tickets for our flights out of Vietnam, rescheduled a planned trip to Halong Bay (as my friend was sick) for no extra charge and was happy to do it. She has a wide variety of tours at good prices. For 80,000 dong she had ALL our laundry done and on our beds when we returned from our afternoon out.

We found our stay at this guesthouse pleasent and we had no problems. If we do return to Hanoi we would definately stay here again.

The staff were very welcoming here and helped us book various tours. The Property is right in the heart of the old quarter of Hanoi and definately worth and couple of nights here.

Very warm welcome, would come and stay again if in Hanoi. Comfortable beds make up for a small room any day.

The owners of the hotel (a very generous and friendly family) are super nice! I had arrived at the hotel after a traumatic taxi ride and the heartwarming welcome and kind help from the owner was just what I needed. I was also provided with help about the bus station in addition to a bus map. Would definitely recommend this place for first time travellers (especially travelling alone or in pairs). The rooms are a bit small, but have all the basic necessities at a very good price. Free internet, free friendly information from the owners that comes with no hard sell whatsoever.

Thw hotel was in a great location 10 mins away from all the city sights. Really helpful owner and her daughters were a great help. Really enjoyed our stay.

This is not the Hilton, but it is excellent value for money, with a great location and fantastic staff. It's small though... so not too many chats with fellow travellers.

Just want to say thanks for making our first few days in Vietnam a breeze. You were such a great help with booking our train tickets and our trip to Halong Bay. We compared all the other places we stayed to your hotel and most of them fell short. thanks again, Brian DeHass

A fantastic place to stay. Rooms are quite basic but spotless and the staff are fantastic -they cannot do enough to help you. Will definately be back.

The owner/Manageress, is fabulous she will help with anything and everything, and with a big smile. She's wonderful, and helped an Australian who had a big problem.. Cannot speak highly enough of her. Very cheap, but clean, and sufficient, great location and great staff.

North Hotel No 2 is more like a guesthouse. However the friendly staff makes up for what they lack in facilities. The location is superb, in the midle of the bustling Old Town area. The rooms are relatively silent due to the location in a very narrow alley. Nice place if you dont expect too much:

In Hanoi I stayed at the North Hotel 1 and 2, both friendly and helpful. I went to the Perfume Pagoda and Halong Bay with Handspan Travel and they did a good job, small groups (16).

From Jason kirkpatrick :

Hi, Thanks so much for all of your help. The lemonade was a really nice touch and was much appreciated after long days travelling! I already recommended North Hotel to 2 people today. Thanks for all of the help booking my trip to Halong Bay today, it was a very nice trip and you have helped to create a great impression of Vietnamese people for me. I have passed on stories already about Vietnam to family and friends in Ireland and in the USA with fond memories of Ha Noi.

North Hotel 2, 5b Ngo Tam Thuong (tel 84-4-828 5030; fax 84- 4-928 5546), also has a sister hotel, North Hotel 1 at 15 Pho Hang Ga (tel & fax 84-4-826 7242), with 8 double rooms which are worth checking out. Rooms in both hotels (12 double rooms in total) are equipped with air-con, hot water, private bathrooms, cable TV, fridge and phone. Standard rates range from $8-12 depending on the size of room, whether it has a balcony etc - these rates are for booking direct by email or fax. Breakfast is not included. Airport transfers are available on request. They also have a home page and internet access.

Rodge, Australia (Thu 7 Feb 2002)

Yes, Hotel North ( either 1 or 2) is fine. Is called hotel, but in fact it's just a small, family run guesthouse. Very nice people. Is mentioned in LP. Very central as well. Very helpful and reliable. Have a car to pick yoou up at airport as well. Can't remember how much they charged for the pick up, but was very nice and easy. very good place indeed. Breakfast in room as well.

Sandrey (7th May 2002)

No pool , but ! I've booked my room at a Hanoi Old Quarter area hotel for next week for $7USD single / night from Australia. It apparently comes with air-con, fridge , TV cable, own amenities, yeah no pool ...booking was done easily by email I am much impressed , it does fit my travel budget and what a bonus to book from home and have pick-up from airport arranged as well...seems you can be very comfy at affordable rates in Hanoi !
Have a great time

Thank you so much for writing to us about not meeting us at the airport. Unfortunately I could not access my email while I was in Ha Noi so I did not get your message. We were picked up by a taxi at the airport who said he would take us to the North Hotel. We were taken somewhere else and the hotel staff lied to us and said they were the North hotel, but had changed their name. We met other foreigners who were there who also had be taken against their will and lied to. They stole our money off us by making pay for first class train tickets which they would not give us until we got on the train. It was a dirty third class train. There were nine other people on this carrage who were cheated by this hotel in the same way. The amount we were personally cheated on this one occasion was US$ 64. There were many other cheating things they did during our stay. These people are using your name to foreigners to cheat them out of there money. I would like to make a formal complaint to someone in authority in Ha Noi if you can give me an address to write to. I will also give you the details of these people and the operation if you are interested. We left Ha Noi feeling very bad about the lying and cheating that we experienced on a daily basis. It is a terrible shame that a few criminal people ruin the name of so many good people like your self and your hotel.

Kind regards,

Heath Black

We were very happy when we got your message in France but not in hoi An ! We didn't check our e-mail messages at this internet address in Vietnam. We had a wonderful holiday.Everything went very well and we loved every moment of our trip. We liked Hu?and Hoi An tremendously. They were two very beautiful and interesting towns. We were also lucky because we had a very good guide. Then , we liked Danang (and its Cham museum), My Son (that was a great visit), Nha Trang and its beach (we spent the day on an island.;;it was cool and relaxing) Then we went to Dalat and visited Phan's cousins Ho Chi Minh city was also fantastic because we spent a lot of time with Phan's family. We went to Vung Tau and spent a very good day there with a vietnamese family who lives in the same town as us (in Plaisir). We also went to the Mekong delta and we did a lot of shopping in the city. The markets were great. We stayed in nice hotels everywhere but we kept saying that yours was the best because it was the most friendly. We'll always remember your lemon juices when we came back from our long excursions, the "pho" that you kindly ordered for us every night. We loved staying in the hall with you, to have a chat so we would like to thank you again for what you did to make our stay very enjoyable. We have some very nice photos that we'll send you soon I hope you had a nice summer and plenty of nice customers. I think your daughters must be back at school now.We wish them all the best Best wishes to you and your family

The North Hotels in Hanoi - (2 replies)

Hello everybody, I have been advised of the North Hotels in the old quarter in Hanoi.Has anyone stayed there and if so would you recommend them for a 2 night stay. Thanks again for any help North Hotel, Hanoi North Hotel No. 1 15 Hang Ga Street North Hotel No. 2 5 Tam Thuong Street I have stayed at both, No.1 runs by a retired doctor and No.2 by his daughter.

North Hotel No. 1 & 2 are  highly recommended - big room, very clean, English-speaking and friendly staff (the doctor speaks French). Please remember to watch the delightful water puppet show at the Thang Long Water Puppet Theatre just beside Hoan Kiem Lake; worth it. I think the entry fee is just 20,000 VND.

I have a pleasant stay at the above hotel; nice location,8USD/double room, very clean and spacious room. The owner, a retired doctor, speaks fluent French and English. One of the better hotels in Hanoi; valued for money.

timtim

i've also stayed at that hotel and found them to be wonderful. $10 for a room with A/C, televsion, and a fridge. their breakfast is good but it costs $2. the staff was friendly and my room was cleaned every day.
